Built on Real Questions

Founded 2019

ephyrixon started because someone asked a question we couldn't answer properly. Not in the way that actually helped, anyway.

A cafe owner in Brunswick wanted to know if expanding to a second location made financial sense. She had the numbers but not the framework to interpret them. That's when we realized something – most business finance education talks at people rather than with them.

So we built something different. A place where cash flow statements aren't scary documents but tools you can actually use. Where profit margins become decision-making aids instead of abstract percentages.

What We Teach

Financial literacy for people who run actual businesses. Not theoretical models or academic exercises – practical frameworks that work when you're making payroll next week.

We focus on the boring stuff that matters. How to read your balance sheet without panic. When debt makes sense and when it doesn't. What your numbers are trying to tell you about next quarter.

Our courses start from where you are, not where textbooks think you should be. Because knowing the difference between gross and net profit matters more than memorizing accounting standards you'll never use.

How It Works

We run eight-week cohorts that meet twice weekly. Small groups, around twelve people, because financial questions get specific fast.

Each session tackles one concept through real business scenarios. Not case studies from twenty years ago – current situations from businesses similar to yours.

Between sessions, you apply what you learned to your own numbers. By week four, most participants have already found at least one area where their business was quietly losing money. By week eight, they've fixed it.

Our next cohort starts September 2025. Applications open in July.

Who Teaches This

We're former accountants, business advisors, and people who've actually run businesses. Which means we've made the mistakes we're helping you avoid.

Real Experience

Our instructors have collectively worked with over 300 Australian small businesses. They've seen what works and what doesn't.

Plain Language

We translate finance speak into normal conversation. Because if you can't explain it simply, you probably don't understand it well enough.

How We Got Here

Six years of figuring out what actually helps people understand their business finances.

2019

First Workshop

Ran our first session in a borrowed office space in Fitzroy. Eight business owners, three hours, and way too much coffee. Half of them still work with us today.

2021

Structure Takes Shape

After two years of experimenting, we finally figured out the right course length. Eight weeks hit the sweet spot between comprehensive and actually manageable for busy business owners.

2023

Moving Locations

Shifted to our Hackett space. More room, better facilities, and finally enough whiteboards for everyone's questions during sessions.

2025

What's Next

Currently developing specialized modules for specific industries. Retail has different financial challenges than professional services, so we're building content that acknowledges that.

Why It Matters

Because good businesses fail from cash flow problems, not bad products. Because understanding your profit margin might save your business during the next slow season.

Financial literacy isn't glamorous. It won't transform your life overnight or unlock hidden potential. But it might help you sleep better knowing exactly where your business stands.

And honestly, that's enough.

Get Started

If you run a business and feel like your financial reports are speaking a language you don't quite understand – that's normal. And fixable.

Our next intake is September 2025. We'll send details about the curriculum and schedule in early July.

Or if you have questions now, email us at contact@ephyrixon.com. We answer everything, usually within a day.
